Our trip to the beach

We spent several days at the beach with Mema and Gpa and Jackson spent two weeks with them at Anna Maria Island. We had a great time and we're already looking for a place for next year. Good times had by all!

The big boy bed transition... part 2

Ok, on February 19, we moved Jackson into his big boy bed... well, the transition has gone down hill... A couple weeks after Jackson had done really well in his new bed, he figured out he could get out of bed, walk to Mama and Daddy's room and generally have free roam of the house. He also figured out that he preferred to sleep on the floor on top of his pillows. Fast forward to April 14... he sleeps on top of his pillows with the baby gate up... Crazy I know! I just hope he grows out of this. Eventually he will realize his bed is more comfortable... right??

Our neighborhood had a little Easter Egg hunt and cookie decorating activity on Saturday. Needless to say the boys had a ball and so did Mema and Gpa.

Well, I finally gave in and we got Jackson his big boy bed. This was his first night in it. I got all teary thinking about the day we brought him home to this crib that is now his big boy bed. He did really well in it. He had a hard time going to sleep the first night but since then, no problems. So far it's been a smooth transition.

I can't believe how this year has flown. John Carter turns one next month. I can hardly stand it in some ways and other times I feel completely thankful we're moving into this fun stage. I can't tell you the benefits, you'd just have to see for youself but Jackson is progressing so well and the horse is definitely a reason - along with the fact that God is healing him and Jackson is being prayed for by MANY!!

This is what Jackson wants to do morning noon and night. Our rule is one time - at a time. Of course Mema and G-pa take him up and down as many times as he wants to go. Memas and G-pas can do that and they all love it! We are very thankful Jackson can do this. At one time we would have paid good money for him to even want to do it much less be able to. One more little miracle for our big man!

Remembering

I was going back through our blog today and found this post. It was the post when he had to have his MRI because his eyes were really acting funny. The amazing part of this is that my prayer was that his symptoms be easily fixed and that we'd have one more major miracle about Jackson and that is exactly how it played out. About 4 weeks ago, Jackson had eye muscle surgery and he is almost completely healed from his surgery. We've noticed a huge difference in his behavior. He doesn't run into walls anymore, his balance continues to improve each day, he scans an area looking for something, etc. etc. We've got another Jackson miracle from God. Thank you Lord!

I've never tried to grow orchids but I sure love them. He brought me one from his stash as it was about to bloom and this is what came out! Isn't it wonderful! I get to look at it everyday.

Normally I keep Jackson and John Carter far away from each other or separated by a barrier because my little bruiser Jackson loves to "burp" the baby on his forehead or any other part in a rather strong manner. However, Jackson was really loving on John Carter this afternoon and I got some very cute images of them together. Now if I can only do this with not such a busy background, these might be wall worthy! :)

Our new little man came about 10 days earlier than he was scheduled but it was exciting. John Carter was born at 5:39 AM on March 16 (get it, John born on 3/16) and he is perfect and it was a complication free delivery. For those of you who remember, we're very thankful for the complication free part. :)

He is doing great and we're so blessed for all of God's gracious blessings and gifts.

Ms. Vicki (Jackson's PT) was working with Jackson yesterday and he took 7 steps. Now, they were wobbly and not exactly adult like, but they were very toddler like. We're getting there! PTL... keep praying. 5 weeks until our new baby is born and that would be awesome to have him walking by then! :)

Look at this... Stuart is such a good daddy and husband! My gracious, that is one of his gifts. Last night at 12:15 AM, he went out to the store to get Vicks vapor steam that goes in the humidifier because Jackson was not sleeping too good and was coughing. He got everything all set up and didn't get to bed until 1 AM. In addition to that at 6 AM this morning, he gets up to put the trash out so we wouldn't have to wait until the end of the week. Then this afternoon, I came home to this....

Completely Unremarkable

Jackson had his MRI today and not only did our pediatrician call from out of the office to get the results but they were completely Unremarkable. Translation - big smart brain and nothing extra! :) Yeah!!! God is Good!!!!! Thank you Thank you for all of your prayers, I know that is why things turned out as well as they did.

God was in the details in this procedure as well - We got excellent treatment and care at All Children's and our pediatrician was keeping tabs on Jackson during the day so she would have the results asap. Not to mention the results were provided within a couple of hours of completion of the procedure. Did I mention All Children's was GREAT! They took such great care of Jackson and really catered to his being a toddler. So many little things just fell right in line. Thank you Lord!!

No pictures this time, I just didn't have the composure to bring my camera. :)

One more little hurdle

Hi everyone,
You know, God doesn't promise us an easy life! He does promise to provide us strength when we don't have any, peace in an unsettling situation and love unconditionally! The beauty of children is that through their struggles we are given the OPPOTUNITY to experience that more so than a lot of people get to in life. The Bible says that we are to give Thanks in everything.

1 Thessalonians 17-18 ... pray continually; 18give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Tonight I am giving thanks that my child has been a miracle in so many ways and he's only 16 months old. He was given to Stuart and I after basically realizing we might not have kids of our own, he was unphased by an abruption of his lifeline at birth, he had a cranial helmet to reshape his head and got it off in record 3 months, had surgery at 15 months old with no complications and wonderful healing and is now facing an issue that requires us to have an MRI of his head.

As his mommy, I know this MRI is just going to be a confirmation that everything is just fine. I do not believe there is anything significantly wrong with him and I claim in the precious healing blood of Jesus that whatever is causing his symptoms are easily fixed and we will have one more major miracle to add to his list! If you will, please pray for Jackson that God's hedge of protection be over him tomorrow and every day, that the anesthesia for tomorrow will go without a hitch and that the results will show nothing other than a very smart brain! :)

The hurt I feel for him having to have endured so much in such a short period of time makes me wonder how Mary bore the Son of Man knowing that he would save us all. I cannot imagine the pain she endured when he was brutalized and died for us all, including her. I just give Thanks to God for allowing me to experience his love, peace and strength one more time in a big way. God is good all the time, and all the time HE is good!

Feed the Bay

On Nov. 23 our church along with 20 other churches in the Brandon area worked together to purchase enough food for 14 food pantries in the area in hopes we'd stock their shelves for 6 months. The goal was 250,000 pounds of food. It was a family affair. All 6 of us went to the grocery story and got items. We had a budget and a list so it was an exercise in math, giving, service and God's blessings to us! It was a wonderful experience!

Jackson has done so great with his surgery. You'd never know he even had it by looking at these pictures. It amazes me how well children heal at this age and how they are affected ( so very little) by major events in their lives. We as parents are the ones who really suffer! :) Actually if I could have scripted the day it would have gone just like it did. He has done so well! Thank you all for your continued prayers. They are working!

We arrived at the hospital a few minutes early, traffic was clear and we got everything together this morning without incident. As a result, the case before Jackson's was significantly late. Had we not gotten there early, we would have had to wait more than an hour longer before Jackson's surgery and so I am very thankful for that. The clinical staff at St. Joseph's is just wonderful. They took excellent care of him and made me feel so at ease. Way to go St. Joe's.

Christmas ideas for Jackson

I don't know about you but I'm starting to Christmas Shop. Here are a few ideas for Jackson. He loves to put something in something else, e.g balls in a basket, and his therapist wants to encourage him to stand and play so that is why I picked out these two items. These are just suggestions.

I have the toughest child in the world

I am sorry, no other child have I ever seen with the toughness and determination as Jackson. He got brave today and when cruising between our couch and the end table let go and tried to get to the end table without holding on. He lost his balance and fell face first in the end table. OUCH!!! He cried for just a few seconds and then was happy again. Meanwhile I was beside myself!! Here is a picture of the GIANT goose egg on his forehead.

Jackson has learned to crawl pretty well on all fours and so now he and I play chase. He looks back to see if I'm behind him and then takes off, I get just close enough and wait for him to look back and them "get him" It's so much fun and we both just laugh. It looks like we'll wait another couple of months and then have his procedure in November sometime. Sounds fairly routine but anytime you put a 15 month old under general anesthesia, I get a little concerned. God is good all the time and I totally trust Him for Jackson's perfect health! Jackson is learning to move in new ways. He's learned to climb the first stair and he's just starting to cruise around the couch and coffee table. We wanted him to move and that's just what we've gotten. :) Oh and in addition to learning to move, we now brush our own hair. He is so proud of himself and I am too!

Jackson's well visit

Jackson had his one year old well visit yesterday. He is 29.5 inches and 22 pounds and 2 ounces. Both of which are in the 40th percentile - right in the middle of the curve. He got 4 shots yesterday, one of which was the chicken pox vaccine. Today he is a little warm and his cheeks are flushed but otherwise just perfect. We are so thankful for a happy healthy little miracle! Love to all!

Jackson learned to give kisses today. Stu taught him how and they are mighty wet but none the less sweet! He opens wide and kind of sticks his tongue out and kisses you. Quite funny but I loved it! By the way, let me paint a sight in your mind today. When I got home from work, Helena was leaving and told me Jackson was sitting in his chair. I walk in to find my little punkin rockin in his chair - so proud of himself with a big smile and of course clapping! Happy little thing!

I can't believe he is one. Wow, as my Dad put it yesterday, the origin of Jackson seems like it was just the other day. We've had a birthday week and we're all exhausted. Jackson is so tired. He was totally overwhelmed by the birthday (so were Stuart and I). We had almost 30 people in our house and Jackson made out like a bandit. Lots of presents!!! Thank you everyone!

Let's talk about the cake. Not a fan of the cake - at all! He didnt' like being messy and didn't like the cake. Totally anticlimactic!

You know, three years ago you couldn't have told me motherhood was as wonderfully fulfiling as it is. I thought my job was the be all end all and I'd just fit in a baby. Well, this picture right here throws that idea in the garbage disposal. Not only do I find motherhood overwhelmingly fulfilling it makes most everything else pale in comparison. Moments like these are priceless treasures!

Tonight after Jackson's bath we a had a few minutes before bedtime so we were in our living room playing with the ball and I was folding clothes. Jackson crawls over to the laundry basket and tries to pull up on it. (I obviously had to hold it because the 22+ pound little boy pulling on it would've tipped it over - anyway) So he is successful and pulls up on it... then he raises his left leg and tries to get In the basket. So we plop him in and he loves it in there. He pulled himself up, cruised along each side and had a good ole time. Who would've thought a laundry basket would be so fun!

By the way, we had to lower the mattress in his crib today. Don't want any monkeys to fall!

I met a friend of mine at the Aquarium today and that was a neat experience. I had never been there. I think as Jackson gets a bit older he'll really enjoy it. This is a quick snap of my friend's 7 month old son. Isn't he just a cutie!?!
